Interest and Ordinary Dividends Income for 1040A Filers

If taxpayer is 1040A filers, he/she is required to file Schedule 1 instead of Schedule B.

Taxpayer can use Schedule 1 if any of the following apply;

  • Taxpayer had over $1500 of taxable interest or dividends.
  • Taxpayer received interest from a seller-financed mortgage and the buyer used the property as a personal residence.
  • Taxpayer is claiming the exclusion of interest from series EE or I U.S. savings bonds issued after 1989.
  • Taxpayer received interest as a nominee.
